Cherie Knaap

Registered Counsellor

I am a Registered Counsellor with a deep-rooted passion for working with people. I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and with the Board of Health Care Funders (BHF).

I obtained my Bachelor of Social Sciences degree as well as my BPsych Equivalent Honours (Cum Laude) at the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP). In addition to working in private practice, I work as a school counsellor at Table View Primary, supporting students in their psychological, academic, and social development.

My areas of interest include (but are not limited to) working with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing a broad range of concerns including stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, loss and bereavement, relationship problems, and adjustment difficulties.

In general, I take a holistic approach to counselling, considering how biological, psychological, and social factors contribute to one’s overall functioning and well-being. I place emphasis on a collaborative, person-centred approach to counselling while drawing on various evidence-based practices and techniques.

I honour the courage and vulnerability it takes to reach out for support and consider it a privilege to hold space for meaningful change and healing with my clients. It is my hope that clients will leave the counselling process with a “toolbox” of strategies to help them move forward and successfully navigate any obstacles further along their journey.
